El-Fashir Calls for Help…. 4 People Die of Hunger Every Week
Activists have revealed a near-total shortage of food supplies in El-Fashir, amid the prolonged siege imposed on the city by the Al-Dagalo militia.
Important commodities have disappeared from stores, including sugar, onions, rice, salt, and lentils, amid a sharp decline in stocks of millet, sorghum, and life-saving medicines in El-Fashir.
Meanwhile, the emergency Chamber at Abu Shouk camp for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in El-Fashir announced that the average number of deaths due to hunger in the camp has risen to 4 people per week, with no accurate statistics on the number of deaths due to disease.
The emergency Chamber said, in a statement, that the suffering of families inside the camp, due to the complete lack of food supplies and health services, has reached critical levels. All commodities have disappeared from the camp market, and the price of a sack of millet has reached 4,300,000 Sudanese pounds, making it impossible for residents to obtain the necessary food.
At the same time, the Chamber confirmed that cases of malnutrition in the camp have increased significantly, in addition to the difficulty of accessing water due to the lack of fuel to operate wells. It also noted the deteriorating health conditions inside the camp.
The Chamber expressed its hope that its appeal will find a quick and effective response to save the lives of thousands of displaced people living in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
