Egyptian Foreign Minister: Our Efforts Focus on Ending the Tragic Situation in Sudan

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdel Aaty, said that Egypt is primarily concerned with everything happening in Sudan, stressing that its efforts are focused on ending the tragic situation in the brotherly neighboring country.

Speaking at a joint press conference with the Maldivian Foreign Minister on Saturday evening, Abdel Aaty said Egypt is keen to achieve a swift humanitarian truce that would lead to an immediate ceasefire, paving the way for an inclusive political process that excludes no one and remains fully Sudanese-owned.

He explained that President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi has extended an invitation to President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, to visit Egypt, affirming Egypt’s full commitment to supporting the Sudanese state and all its institutions — particularly the military establishment.

Abdel Aaty noted that during his meeting with Al-Burhan in Egypt, President Al-Sisi emphasized the critical importance of ending the war that is destroying the resources and capabilities of the Sudanese people.

He stated that the war in Sudan is destroying everything and must be ended as soon as possible, adding, “We hope that through the efforts to be pursued in the coming period, all concerned parties will reach an understanding to secure a humanitarian truce as soon as possible and to lift the unjust siege on Al-Fashir, which has lasted for more than a year and a half.”

He stressed the importance of ensuring that humanitarian aid reaches all parts of Sudan and that the ongoing efforts lead to a ceasefire, the prevention of arms inflows from abroad, and the launch of a political process.
