Egypt Calls for Establishing “Safe Havens” in Darfur Free of Militia Control

Geneva, December 7, 2025 (SUNA) – Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aaty, affirmed that Egypt will not—under any circumstances—accept the partition of Sudan, stressing the imperative of preserving the unity of the brotherly country, safeguarding its territorial integrity, and protecting the resources of the Sudanese people.

In an interview with Al Jazeera on Sunday, Minister Abdel Aaty expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, saying: “Our hearts bleed over the killings, massacres, and crimes committed against civilians, particularly following the fall of El-Fashir in the Darfur region. The Sudanese citizens are the foremost victims of these tragic events.”

He underscored the necessity of establishing safe havens in Darfur that are not under militia control but supervised by a neutral authority, enabling civilians to seek refuge without fear of killing, rape, or arson.

The minister emphasized that this initiative must proceed within the framework of a humanitarian truce, leading to a ceasefire, the opening of humanitarian corridors for aid delivery, and the launch of an inclusive political process that excludes no party and remains Sudanese-owned, allowing the people to form a government free from external pressures.

Minister Abdel Aaty concluded: “Egypt is pursuing this path with utmost seriousness. Our position is clear and firm: Egypt will under no pretext accept the division of Sudan. Preserving national institutions is essential, for without these institutions and the Sudanese Armed Forces, there can be no homeland in Sudan.”
