Due to the “Where do we take it” protest… Sudanese government extends the currency replacement period

The Supreme Committee for Currency Replacement in Sudan extended the currency replacement period as of Wednesday, January 1, until Monday, January 6, 2025. Dozens of citizens demonstrated in Portsudan on Tuesday in protest against the expiration of the currency replacement deadline, carrying quantities of old currency and chanting “Where do we take it?”

The Supreme Committee for Currency Replacement pointed out that this extension is to enable citizens in all targeted states to complete the replacement process easily and smoothly.

The committee, in a statement by the Minister of Information and official government spokesman Khalid Al-Aiser, urged citizens in all targeted states to cooperate during this period and expedite the completion of the exchange process on time, expressing the Supreme Committee’s keenness on the interests of the Sudanese people.

For his part, Member of the National Sovereignty Council and Head of the Supreme Committee for Currency Replacement, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jabir, prompted citizens to expedite the opening of bank accounts and dealing with electronic transactions instead of banknotes to prevent counterfeiting.
