Drones attack Merowe Dam

Minister of Energy and Oil, Dr. Mohi El-Din Naeem, explained that the transformer station at the Merowe Dam power station was attacked by drones at approximately 3:30 am on Monday, January 13, 2025. Bless be to Allah there were no casualties.
The minister said that the attack led to the burning of Al-Markhiyat line reactor, and work is now underway to examine the switches and cables and assess the losses to determine urgent needs.
Naeem added that the power station was not affected, including the turbines, transformers and auxiliary equipment, indicating that the station went out of service as a result of the attack. One unit was later operated to supply the station and the Northern State, however, it also went out of service, and efforts are now underway to return it to service.
Naeem pointed out that the rest of the transmission lines, including Atbara and Al-Markhiyat lines, are awaiting inspection by the engineers of the transmission company and the possibility of returning them to service as soon as possible.
The minister stressed the need to take further measures to protect vital facilities and installations in the country.
