Dead and Wounded in Shelling on Al-Dalang Amid Fierce Clashes in South Kordofan
A number of civilians were killed and others injured on Monday following drone strikes carried out by forces described as an alliance between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) led by Abdel-Aziz Al-Hilu, targeting the city of Al-Dalang in South Kordofan State.
The attacks coincided with intense fighting in areas between Al-Dalang and Kadugli, amid conflicting reports regarding control on the ground.
These developments came one day after the Sudanese Armed Forces repelled an assault launched by the RSF and its ally targeting Al-Dalang. The allied forces are reportedly seeking to reimpose a siege on the main cities of South Kordofan after the army and its allies succeeded in January and February in breaking the blockade of Al-Dalang and Kadugli, reconnecting them with North Kordofan via rugged routes, thereby ending nearly three years of isolation.
Local sources told Sudan Tribune that “large numbers of civilians were killed and others wounded as a result of indiscriminate attacks carried out by the RSF and the SPLM-N using drones.”
According to the sources, the aerial assaults struck the neighborhoods of Al-Makk, Al-Marafid, Kajnag, Al-Hilla Al-Jadida and others, causing extensive destruction to residential homes. The same drones also destroyed a number of shops in Al-Dalang’s main market, in addition to targeting sites in the vicinity of the headquarters of the 54th Brigade, the army’s principal base in the area.
The situation in South Kordofan remains fluid, with ongoing clashes and uncertainty surrounding the balance of control across contested zones.
