Central Bank of Sudan Resumes Operations in Khartoum

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan, Dr. Amina Mirghani, announced that the Bank will resume operations within Khartoum State, with staff returning in December. A new branch will also open as part of efforts to restore economic activity and enable citizens to access banking services directly.

Speaking with Khartoum Wali Ahmed Osman Hamza, Dr. Mirghani said the Bank is allocating premises for a Microfinance Institution branch and developing policies to support microfinance, attracting domestic and regional funding to stimulate production and economic growth.

Central Bank Governor expressed appreciation for the Armed Forces’ efforts in the Battle of Dignity to restore security, noting that stability is essential for the return of banking and service activities.

Wali Hamza praised the Central Bank’s role in maintaining financial stability and cash flow during the conflict and urged the Bank to prioritize infrastructure projects, support rehabilitation of major service projects, and provide necessary guarantees for implementation. He confirmed the state government’s full support for the Bank’s return, which is expected to encourage commercial banks to resume operations, boosting investment and economic recovery.
