CBoS Official: We did not delay in changing the currency, the decision is political issue

A senior official at the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) has disclosed that the amount of money plundered by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia from banks and currency printing presses is estimated at about 400 million dollars. He affirmed that changing the currency is a political decision and requires providing hundreds of millions of dollars, denying that t CBoS had delayed the decision to issue new denominations instead of the looted ones.

The bank had announced the launch of two new denominations, “1000 and 500 pounds”, for circulation.

The CBoS official – who requested anonymity – told (Al Jazeera Net) that most of the plundered money is from big denominations as well as denominations vulnerable to counterfeiting, stating that the security situation prevents the transfer of banknotes to the states affected by the war.
