Blue Nile Health Minister: IDPs Needs Exceed Region’s Capacity
Blue Nile Region Health Minister Jamal Nassir revealed that 776 displaced families have arrived in Al-Damazin following attacks by the Rapid Support Forces and the SPLM-North on the strategic town of Al-Kormuk.
Nassir told Ultra Sudan that each family consists of four to five members, noting that residents evacuated their towns and villages out of fear of violations by the rebel militia.
He added that the region had already been hosting 10 displacement camps around Al-Damazin prior to the recent events.
He explained that the displaced fall into three categories: those fleeing the war in Khartoum, Madani, and Singa; those displaced by earlier conflicts in the western parts of the region; and returnees under voluntary repatriation programs from South Sudan and Ethiopia.
Nassir stated that the needs of the displaced exceed the capacity of both the Health Ministry and the regional government, stressing the urgent need for full shelter, tents, bedding, and mosquito nets, especially with the rainy season approaching.
He called on local, regional, and international organizations to intervene urgently, affirming that the situation in Blue Nile requires immediate support to provide essential health services.
The Blue Nile Humanitarian Emergency Room announced on Thursday, March 26, that approximately 73,000 people have been displaced from Al-Kormuk locality in southeastern Sudan due to RSF attacks.
