AU warns Al-Dagalo militia against forming a parallel government

The African Union (AU) expressed “deep concern” on Wednesday over the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and its allies’ formation of a parallel government in Sudan, warning that the move threatens to “divide” the country, where a war has been raging for more than two years.

In a statement, the bloc condemned “the announcement by the RSF and associated political and social forces of the formation of a parallel government in the Republic of Sudan,” warning that this move poses “a grave risk of dividing the country.”

The RSF and its allied political and military forces signed a charter last February pledging to establish a government of “peace and unity” in rebel-held areas of Sudan. Twenty-four figures also signed the RSF constitution, including the RSF’s deputy commander, Abdel-Rahim Dagalo.
