Army Announces Control of Strategic Positions in Blue Nile

The Sudanese army announced on Monday that it had regained control of several positions from militia forces in the Blue Nile region, in the far southeast of Sudan.

On Sunday, the militia, in coordination with its ally, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), launched a fierce attack targeting the areas of Al-Silk and Melkan in Bau locality, Blue Nile. According to a government official, the attack was carried out from within the territory of South Sudan, where the attacking forces had received training and preparation in camps located inside the neighboring country.

In a statement, the command of the Fourth Infantry Division in Damazin said that its forces, supported by auxiliary units, succeeded in retaking Al-Silk area in the Blue Nile region following a tightly executed military operation that resulted in the decisive defeat of the terrorist militias.
