Arman Calls for Ceasefire in “Triangle of Death”
Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Democratic Revolutionary Current, Yassir Arman, has called for a one-week ceasefire in areas he described as the “Triangle of Death” in North and South Kordofan.
Drone strikes have intensified in El-Obeid, North Kordofan, as well as in Al-Dalang and Kadugli in South Kordofan, while areas surrounding the three cities continue to witness intermittent ground clashes.
The deteriorating security situation has also led to a surge in crime rates.
Arman posted a video on his Facebook platform showing the suffering of patients in the intensive care unit at El-Obeid Teaching Hospital following a three-day power outage. Commenting on the worsening conditions at the hospital, he renewed his call for a one-week ceasefire in the cities and villages of the so-called Triangle of Death, alongside permission for the United Nations to airdrop and deliver medicine and food to civilians, and to evacuate critically ill patients from besieged areas.
He said Sudanese at home and abroad must stand up for civilians in the Triangle of Death—El-Obeid, Kadugli, and Al-Dalang, and their surrounding areas—arguing that moral clarity, human conscience, and an unwavering commitment to the right to life require the protection of civilians and their livelihoods.
Arman stated that civilians are paying the price of the fighting, with patients dying at Al-Dalang Hospital and in El-Obeid, Kadugli, and surrounding towns and villages. He asked: “What value do cities and villages hold if they are retained or seized after their people have perished? What kind of victory is etched on the graves and coffins of those communities?”
He also criticized what he described as the silence of the international community and peace initiative sponsors, including the African Union, the Arab League, and the United Nations, over the situation unfolding in North and South Kordofan.
