A series of investigations conducted by a journalist for Sudanese Echoes revealed horrific crimes and genocide committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps in North Darfur.

The latest of these crimes was the Zamzam camp massacre, located 15 kilometers south of El-Fashir. Survivors of the massacre provided the newspaper with painful stories and details about what thousands of IDPs in Zamzam camp, which houses approximately 700,000 IDPs, were subjected to.

The militia committed mass massacres upon storming the camp, killing more than 500 IDPs on the first day.

Hundreds of teenage girls were raped and abducted, and taken to an unknown location. Survivors were prevented from leaving the camp, using them as human shields. Hundreds of children were also lost, separated from their families due to the panic and chaos that swept through the camp. Meanwhile, medical sources confirmed to the newspaper that the militia cold-bloodedly assassinated a number of Sudanese and foreign medical personnel working for humanitarian organizations while they were performing their humanitarian duty in treating the wounded inside the camp. Meanwhile, the Coordination Committee of Resistance Committees in El-Fashir and other IDP camps described the situation in Zamzam camp and other IDP camps as catastrophic.
