Al-Burhan Holds Closed-Door Meeting With U.S. President’s Adviser in Riyadh
President of the Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan held a closed-door meeting on Monday in the Saudi capital Riyadh with Massad Boulos, the U.S. President’s adviser for African affairs, to discuss developments in Sudan and a proposed humanitarian truce.
The meeting—the third of its kind between the two men—reviewed the latest developments on the ground in Sudan and their repercussions, alongside efforts aimed at restoring security and stability. Encounters between Al-Burhan and Boulos are consistently shrouded in secrecy; the two previously met in Geneva without any official statements being issued about the substance of their talks.
Senior diplomatic sources told Sudan Tribune that Al-Burhan also met with the Saudi Crown Prince in the presence of the U.S. presidential adviser. The discussions addressed recent developments in Sudan’s war, as well as the humanitarian truce proposal. The meeting further examined mechanisms for delivering humanitarian assistance to the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
Al-Burhan’s visit coincided with Boulos’s presence in Riyadh. The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Boulos met on Monday with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman bin Abdulaziz. The meeting reviewed regional developments and ongoing efforts to promote peace, in addition to discussing a number of issues of mutual interest.
