Al-Burhan Affirms to the United Nations: Sudan Remains Keen on Peace
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, received in his office the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General, Ramtane Lamamra, in the presence of Foreign Minister Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim.
TSC President welcomed the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General and affirmed the Sudanese Government’s readiness to work with the United Nations and all of its agencies operating in the country to achieve the desired objectives across humanitarian, development, and social fields. He stressed that Sudan welcomes the Secretary-General’s efforts and his personal engagement in the Sudan peace file, praising Lamamra’s efforts to help bring peace to Sudan. He stated that the government seeks to realize peace across all parts of the country in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
General Al-Burhan reiterated Sudan’s commitment to continuing cooperation with the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to advance security and stability in Sudan and across the region.
For his part, Lamamra affirmed that his visit to Sudan aims to follow up on the political, security, and humanitarian situation in the country, in line with the desire of the UN Secretary-General, who has been closely monitoring developments in Sudan.
Lamamra added that he is well aware of the complexities facing the Sudanese Government, stressing that there remains an opportunity for a Sudanese–Sudanese dialogue that could halt bloodshed and reinforce security and stability. He noted that the United Nations stands ready to provide all necessary support to achieve this goal.
