Al-Burhan Absent from Baghdad Summit, Prime Minister to Lead Sudan’s Delegation

Acting Prime Minister Dafallah Al-Haj Ali is to lead the Sudanese delegation to participate in the regular Arab Summit in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, next Saturday.

Dafallah has not yet arrived from Saudi Arabia to assume his position.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Omar Siddig, who is still in Beijing, according to Al-Sudani press, will participate in the Arab Foreign Ministers’ meetings in Baghdad on May 15.

The Baghdad Summit agenda does not include any issues related to the Sudanese war and its repercussions, especially after Sudan severed relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and designated it an aggressor state.

According to the Iraqi government, the summit’s agenda concerns Arab national security and regional political challenges, in addition to issues of sustainable development, economic cooperation, and integration in the face of regional and international crises.

On Thursday, Sudan, through official letters, called on the UN Secretary-General, the UN Security Council, and other international and regional organizations to hold emergency meetings to discuss the UAE’s aggression against Sudan.
