Ahmed Gasim Hospital Resumes Pediatric Heart Surgeries for the First Time Since the War
In a notable medical and humanitarian breakthrough, Sudan’s Ministry of Health has announced the resumption of pediatric heart surgeries at Ahmed Gasim Hospital in Khartoum Bahri, marking the first time such procedures have been performed there since the outbreak of the war. The move restores hope for hundreds of families who have been unable to secure life-saving treatment for their children under the current conditions.
The announcement followed an expanded meeting chaired on Monday by Federal Minister of Health Professor Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim at his office, attended by leadership from the National Heart Center and Ahmed Gasim Hospital. The meeting reviewed plans to operate a “specialized federal hospital” for cardiac emergencies in Khartoum State, while affirming the return of Al-Shaab Teaching Hospital to providing its vital services.
The minister affirmed that the government places priority on expanding in-country treatment capacity to reduce the high costs of medical care abroad. He also pointed to directives to establish a “unified window” and an electronic system linking the health, finance, and national health insurance sectors to streamline procedures for patients.
