After Meeting Al-Burhan … German Minister: The War in Sudan Must Stop Immediately
President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, emphasized the importance of Germany’s role as a key country in the European Union, noting that it has been one of Sudan’s major supporters over past decades.
Al-Burhan met in his office today with Ms. Serap Güler, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office.
The meeting discussed the outcomes of her two-day visit to Sudan, during which she met those affected by the war.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, stated that TSC President briefed the visiting official on the developments in Sudan in light of the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Militia against the state, its institutions, and the Sudanese people. He stressed the importance of Germany’s positive engagement to help find a solution and to persuade the militia and its supporters to halt the war and end the suffering of Sudanese people.
The German State Minister at the German Federal Office said, in a press statement, that she had also visited Chad, where she held talks with government officials and met several Sudanese refugees along the Sudan-Chad border, learning about the extent of the suffering they face.
She noted that during her visit she sensed the Sudanese people’s strong desire for peace so that citizens can return to their work, children to their schools, and millions of refugees to their homes. “This war must stop immediately,” she declared.
The Minister described the situation in El-Fashir as extremely dire, pointing out that the militia has besieged the city for more than 500 days. She called on the militia to lift the siege immediately and to respect international humanitarian law.
She said she thanked TSC President for his efforts to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the internal displaced persons (IDPs), noting the improvement that has been observed in this regard. She emphasized the importance of the presence of United Nations organizations across Sudan to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to all parts of the country.
The German official affirmed her country’s support for all sincere efforts to achieve peace in Sudan and ensure an inclusive, civilian-led transitional process. She stressed that Germany and other European nations stand with the Sudanese people.
