African Union meets Sudanese parties in Addis Ababa to end the war
Political and civilian leaderships are holding intensive meetings with leaderships of the African Union (AU) Commission at its headquarters in Addis Ababa.
Several sources told Sudan Tribune that the figures leading these consultations met with the Head of the African Union office in Khartoum, Mohamed Belaish.
These figures represent political and civilian dignitaries calling for an end to the war and support for Sudanese dialogue.
The civilian political delegation is presenting a comprehensive political and human rights vision regarding the ongoing war in Sudan. It views it as a systematic external aggression, in which the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia is being used as a tool to dismantle the state, undermine the country’s unity, and terrorize civilians.
It also provided the African Union with a series of documented violations committed against the Sudanese people, including genocide, mass rape, sexual slavery, the systematic devastation of health and educational facilities, and the forced displacement of more than 10 million civilians.
In a press release, the civilian delegation, concerned with ending the war and supporting the Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, stressed the need to end the war without favoritism toward armed militias, adhere to the principle of transitional justice, and reject any agreement that imposes the status quo by force.
Reliable sources confirmed to Sudan Tribune that the AU Commission’s Chairman, Mahmoud Ali Youssef, is seeking to hold a fourth round of talks with the Sudanese parties in late July or August.
