A Prominent RSF Commander Killed in Kordofan Battles

One of the most prominent commanders of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia operations in the Kordofan region was killed on Monday following intense clashes with the Sudanese army in the areas south of Al-Obied in North Kordofan state.

The army had, on Sunday, seized control of the Kazgail, Al-Riyash, Brintqul, and Om Syala areas after fierce battles with the militia, in the latest push aimed at reaching South Kordofan state and ending the siege of Dilling and Kadugli cities.

Local sources told Sudan Tribune that Al-Sadig Makin, commander of RSF Group 36, was killed in battles in the Kazgail area. Several militia-affiliated pages mourned the fallen general.

Al-Sadig Makin is considered one of the most prominent militia commanders in the Kordofan region, active in the southern areas of Al-Obied since the early months of the war, before being appointed commander of the militia in Abu Zabad sector, his place of origin.

Al-Sadig Makin and the forces under his command are accused of committing widespread violations against civilians in both Al-Dibaibat and Taybah in South Kordofan state, as well as in Abu Zabad and surrounding areas in West Kordofan, where he deployed dozens of checkpoints that restricted civilian movement.

Since early Monday, the militia launched a violent attack on army positions in the Kazgail area in an attempt to recapture the region.

Military sources said the army managed to repel the attack, inflicting heavy losses on the militia in both personnel and military equipment, with the participation of warplanes that heavily bombed militia positions in Kazgail and other areas in North and West Kordofan in operations aimed at cutting off support groups.

Army-affiliated platforms broadcasted videos showing their deployment in Kazgail, while the clips also displayed the militia’s destroyed military vehicles and a number of casualties from their forces.
