RSF Militia Commits Brutal Massacre of Unarmed IDPs Near Chadian ‎Border

A Darfur regional government official on Sunday accused the Rapid ‎Support Forces (RSF) militia of committing a horrific massacre that left ‎at least 11 internally displaced persons (IDPs) dead and dozens ‎wounded in an attack on a town in West Darfur State, which borders ‎Chad.‎

Border areas between Sudan and Chad, particularly in North and West ‎Darfur states, have witnessed ongoing clashes between the Sudanese ‎Armed Forces (SAF) and their allies on one side and the RSF militia on ‎the other.‎

The fighting has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, forcing ‎thousands of residents to flee into Chadian territory in search of safety, ‎amid growing concerns over the security of civilians and displaced ‎people in border areas.‎

In a statement, Babiker Hamadain, Minister of Health and Social ‎Welfare in the Darfur regional government, said: “We strongly ‎condemn the bloody massacre committed by the terrorist RSF militia ‎on Saturday against displaced people in the Hajar Sanakit area, within ‎the Bir Seleiba administrative unit of Sirba locality in West Darfur ‎State. According to preliminary figures, the massacre claimed the lives ‎of 11 people and left others wounded, most of them women and ‎children.”‎

Hamadain said that targeting displacement camps and unarmed ‎civilians constituted a horrific crime and a grave violation of ‎international humanitarian law. He added that the attack reflected the ‎militia’s disregard for the lives of innocent people and further added to ‎its record of violations and crimes against civilians in Darfur.‎
