RSF Militia Blows Up South Sudan Oil Pipeline

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia blew up the pipeline transporting South Sudan’s oil north of Al-Hamadi area, triggering widespread fires that threaten the safety of facilities and infrastructure. Al-Hamadi area is under the control of the RSF militia. To cover up what the militia had done, the Janjaweed government quickly issued a statement claiming that the army was responsible for blowing up the pipeline.

Media reports had previously spoken of a request made by militia commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti) during his visit to Juba to obtain the largest share of revenues from oil transit fees through Sudan. According to the reports, President Salva Kiir Mayardit rejected the request.
