Mass Escape of Militia Leaders from Kordofan as Families Flee El-Daein

Matching local and field sources revealed a state of acute security confusion in El-Daein, capital of East Darfur State, following the arrival of large numbers of leaders and members of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia who had fled the advancing battlefronts in North Kordofan State.

The sources said the influx of leaders fleeing Sudanese Armed Forces strikes in North Kordofan had triggered a wave of questions and doubts among the militia’s local members in El-Daein regarding the reality of the ongoing military collapses along the front lines and the scale of losses on the ground.

In a rapidly developing situation, dozens of families of militia members and leaders began leaving El-Daein in large numbers, heading toward Nyala, which also received additional numbers of wounded and those fleeing the battles in Kordofan. This comes amid growing fear and a loss of confidence, as anticipation intensifies over possible sudden military developments in the area.

A prominent figure in El-Daein described the depth of the panic and apprehension gripping the area, saying: “Fear now controls everyone. We have become accustomed to waking up in the morning to find the enemy inside our homes,” referring to expected changes on the ground that could occur at any moment.
