Army Captures New Areas in Darfur Region

Local sources confirmed that the Sudanese Army and the Joint Forces have captured three towns between West and North Darfur—Bir Seleiba, Om Surooj, and Seleia—over the past two days.

Speaking to Ultra Sudan, the sources said the Joint Forces, fighting alongside the Sudanese Army, are now moving freely along key routes linking West and North Darfur, expanding their territorial control.

The sources said the towns were captured following battles with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, noting that the Joint Forces have intensified their military deployments in the area during the current period.

For his part, Darfur affairs researcher Dirar Adam Dirar told Ultra Sudan: “The Joint Forces’ withdrawal from Kulbus was a tactical move aimed at capturing Bir Saliba, Seleia, and Om Surooj simultaneously.”
He added: “It is evident that the Joint Forces are expanding their field control in West and North Darfur, while also gaining greater freedom of movement along routes stretching from both states to the Chadian border, reaching Sirba Locality.”

Dirar said several factors had enabled the Joint Forces to expand their presence on the ground, including the recruitment of new fighters from the region to defend Darfur and reclaim it from the RSF militia.

He added: “Another notable development is that the Joint Forces have seized the initiative and are now launching offensive operations against the RSF. These are indications that the noose is beginning to tighten around El Geneina, which remains under the control of Dagalo’s forces.”

The Joint Forces withdrew from the town of Kulbus, which comprises three administrative units, late last week after capturing it in mid-June 2026, in operations that shifted the fighting back into the Darfur region.
