UAE Military Facility Near Bahir Dar Airport Used to Assemble Militia Drones
The spokesperson for the Fano movement in Ethiopia’s Amhara region, Asres Mare, made exclusive and controversial remarks about an expanding Emirati logistical and military role inside Ethiopian territory.
According to Al-Onwan 24, Mare said Abu Dhabi has for several months been using the Ethiopian Army’s Western Command headquarters as a rear base for storing drone components and assembling unmanned aerial vehicles.
He explained that the sensitive military installation is strategically located just 8 kilometres from Bahir Dar Airport, the regional capital of the Amhara region.
Reuters reported last February that Ethiopia was hosting a training camp for thousands of fighters linked to the militia and had upgraded the nearby Assosa Airport for use in drone operations.
