Prime Minister Cancels Additional Fees at Sudan’s Border Crossings
Prime Minister Kamil Idris has ordered the cancellation of all additional fees or taxes at Sudanese border crossings.
The decision comes after public anger over congestion at the Argeen crossing with Egypt, where extra charges imposed on passengers forced transport operators to suspend services temporarily.
The Prime Minister’s Office directed the Ministry of Finance, Customs Authority, Tax Chamber, border authorities, and state governments to implement the order immediately.
Idris urged citizens not to pay any unregulated or extra fees, stating that such charges “have impoverished citizens without benefiting the state.”
The move follows recent transport fare increases linked to fuel prices; alongside additional taxes imposed on return routes to Khartoum, Atbara, and Dongola.
The Adre crossing handles between 1,200 and 1,800 returnees daily, with measures in place to streamline entry procedures.
Tax Chamber Secretary-General Badr Al-Tamam Mohamed Saad clarified that the Chamber does not set or increase ticket prices.
