Civil Defense Saves Al-Guneid Sugar Factory from Disaster

Civil Defense forces in Al-Gezira State managed to contain a fire that broke out inside the agricultural workshop of the Al-Guneid Sugar Factory in Al-Hassahessa locality, following a rapid response by firefighting teams that prevented the flames from spreading to nearby facilities.

According to the Police Press Office, firefighting teams moved immediately to the site after receiving the report and began suppression operations until the blaze was fully brought under control.

The statement explained that the materials that caught fire consisted of grass and containers holding scrap spare parts and old tires, confirming that no casualties or injuries were recorded.

The office added that the swift intervention helped protect several agricultural machines at the site, including three loaders and three harvesters, and prevented the fire from spreading to other sections of the factory. The cause of the fire remains unknown, while technical authorities continue investigations into the circumstances of the incident.

Al-Guneid Sugar Factory is one of the oldest sugar factories in Sudan. It began operations in 1962 as part of state efforts to develop the domestic sugar industry and reduce reliance on imports, and it remains one of the country’s most prominent industrial facilities in this sector.
