Doctors: New Wave of Dengue Fever Cases and Deaths in Khartoum

The spokesperson for the Preparatory Committee of the Sudan Medical Association revealed on Tuesday that more than 200 new cases of dengue fever, including 39 deaths, have been recorded in Khartoum State.

Before the end of last year, the Ministry of Health reopened approximately 284 hospitals and health centres in Khartoum State after they had been damaged and vandalized during the Rapid Support Forces’ control over much of the state.

Spokesperson Said Mohamed Abdullah told Sudan Tribune that the committee had observed alarming statistics indicating an upward epidemic curve for dengue fever, with 211 new infections, including 39 deaths, recorded so far in Khartoum.

He noted that the most vulnerable groups were at the forefront of the fatalities, with 22 women and six children among the deceased, amid a severe shortage of essential medical supplies.
