Army Reduces Nyala Fuel Market to Ashes

Traders affected by a fire at the fuel market in Nyala, South Darfur, reported on Tuesday that they suffered significant losses due to the blaze that broke out late last week.

A drone, believed to belong to the Sudanese army, struck the fuel market last Thursday, causing the entire market to burn down.

Trader Mohamed Zain Al-Abidin told Darfur24 that the initial financial losses alone exceeded four trillion Sudanese pounds, in addition to the loss of approximately 1,500 barrels of fuel and 2,000 empty barrels. He added that the price of an empty barrel ranges between 200,000 and 250,000 pounds in the market.

Mohamed denied any human casualties among those working in the market as a result of the strike.

Several affected traders told Darfur24 that the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), rebel Hemeidti, had pledged to compensate them after assessing the losses, without specifying whether the compensation would be full or partial.
