UK Calls for Immediate Accountability for Leaders of the UAE-Backed Militia in Sudan

British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on Tuesday called for immediate accountability for those responsible for what she described as “heinous crimes” in Sudan, underscoring that attacks on civilians and healthcare facilities are utterly unacceptable, according to Cairo News.

In a post on her account on X, Cooper portrayed the devastating situation on the ground, stating: “The horrors in Sudan continue, with children being killed in kindergartens and patients dying in hospitals.”

She reaffirmed the fundamental principles of international humanitarian law, stressing: “Civilians and healthcare facilities must never be legitimate targets.”

Cooper also delivered a clear message to all warring parties: “Those responsible for these heinous crimes must be held to account.”

Her statement comes amid ongoing intense fighting that has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and displaced millions across Sudan.

In a related development, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom said that repeated airstrikes in South Kordofan State hit a kindergarten and the nearby Kalogi Rural Hospital.

The strikes killed 114 people, including 63 children, and wounded 35 others, according to the WHO’s Surveillance System for Attacks on Healthcare. Survivors of the 4 December attacks were transferred to Abu Jubaiha Hospital in South Kordofan for treatment, amid urgent calls for blood donations and medical support.
