Precautionary Measures and Emergency Procedures at Port Sudan Airport
The Emergency Directorate of the Ministry of Health reviewed the technical and precautionary measures in place to prevent and control the spread of Marburg virus disease (MVD), particularly in light of incoming flights from countries experiencing outbreaks, foremost among them Ethiopia.
The Director-General of the Directorate for Emergencies and Epidemic Control at the Ministry of Health, Montasir Mohamed Osman, led a high-level delegation on an inspection visit to Port Sudan International Airport. The delegation included senior officials from the National Quarantine Authority, the Red Sea Quarantine Office, and a representative for International Health Regulations (IHR).
The delegation held a key meeting with the airport’s Environment and Safety Officer, Musa Gebreil, focusing on strengthening joint coordination between the Health Directorate and the airport administration to ensure effective containment of Marburg and other airborne diseases. Montasir listened to all staff feedback, affirming the directorate’s commitment to addressing any challenges or deficiencies immediately to maintain the highest levels of readiness and response at the airport.
