Bin Salman to Press Trump for Personal Intervention to End the Sudan War

Reuters reported, citing five well-informed diplomats—two Arab and three Western—that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman will press U.S. President Donald Trump to personally intervene to end the war in Sudan.

According to the diplomats, who spoke about the two leaders’ planned talks in Washington on Tuesday, the Saudi Crown Prince believes direct pressure from Trump is essential to break the deadlock in negotiations aimed at ending more than two and a half years of conflict. They noted his recent efforts to help secure a ceasefire in Gaza last month.

Reuters’ sources added that by raising the Sudan issue with Trump, Saudi Arabia seeks to capitalize on the U.S. president’s view of himself as a peacemaker who aspires to win a Nobel Peace Prize for his role in addressing global conflicts.

The Saudi government’s media office did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
