50,000 Flee to Al-Dabbah… Al-Burhan Visits and Consoles El-Fashir IDPs There

President of Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC), General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, visited on Saturday afternoon the camp housing internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the city of El-Fashir in North Darfur State, who have fled to the Al-Afadd area in Al-Dabbah Locality, Northern State.

Earlier, Sudanese Minister of Social Development, Moatassim Ahmed Salih, revealed that about 50,000 IDPs had arrived from El-Fashir and surrounding areas to the locality, noting that they are in urgent need of care and assistance.

The Minister of Human Resources said, during a press conference today, Saturday, that “the crimes committed in El-Fashir are beyond imagination, and tens of thousands have fallen victim to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.”

Displaced from El-Fashir

Al Jazeera Mubasher’s camera documented the situation of Sudanese IDPs who fled from El-Fashir to northern Sudan. They are currently in the “Qatar Al-Khair” camp in the Al-Afadd area there.

El-Fashir, the capital of North Darfur State and the region’s most important city, lies in northwestern Darfur. Late last month, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia announced their control of the Sudanese army’s Sixth Infantry Division headquarters in the city and later declared full control over the entire Darfur region, which constitutes nearly one-third of Sudan’s territory.

“ Hunger Amid Bombardment ”

Some of the IDPs said they endured a grueling journey fleeing from El-Fashir and spoke of violations committed after the RSF militia entered the city, including cases of rape and other abuses.

One displaced woman said life in El-Fashir had become extremely difficult due to the siege imposed by the RSF and the lack of food, forcing people to eat animal fodder to survive.

Another displaced woman said she had been injured, her son is missing in El-Fashir, and her family’s whereabouts are unknown after they fled to the town of Tawila. Tearfully, she said she came with her daughter there, while the rest of her family remains missing.

“ Heavy Weapons Striking Civilians”

Another displaced woman, who arrived from El-Fashir last week, said she had to borrow money to pay the very high transport fare.

She described the dire situation in the city, noting the use of large-caliber weapons, and said falling shells killed many civilians — some people were even gathering body parts into sacks to bury them.

She also recounted tragic scenes she witnessed during her flight, including a woman who was killed while her infant lay beside her, and a young man whose goods were taken by RSF soldiers before they killed him and left his body behind.
