Mass Killing of Thousands of Civilians in Brutal Massacres in El-Fashir

The militia owned by the Dagalo family carried out large-scale summary executions in the city of El-Fashir, claiming the lives of hundreds of people in one of the deadliest acts of revenge witnessed in Sudan’s ongoing war between the army and the militia.

According to UN human rights reports, around 1,850 civilians have been killed in North Darfur, including at least 1,350 in El-Fashir alone. The reports noted that these figures may not fully reflect the actual scale of casualties due to poor communications and limited access to affected areas.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized control of the city last Sunday after about 550 days of continuous siege, while the army said it withdrew to protect civilian lives and prevent the city’s destruction.

The UN Human Rights Office confirmed multiple disturbing reports indicating that the militia has been committing atrocities after taking control of large parts of the besieged city of El-Fashir in North Darfur and the town of Bara in North Kordofan in recent days.

A sister of a Sudanese army soldier who withdrew with his comrades from El-Fashir told Sudan Tribune that her brother and their mother were killed.

She said that one of her brother’s friends, also a soldier, informed her that her brother and mother were executed by militia members who carried out mass killings of civilians, killing more than 800 people according to information gathered from multiple sources within the city.
