Leaked Recordings: Chadian Official Says “We Rent Um Jaras Airport to Whoever Wants”
Leaked audio recordings attributed to Chad’s ambassador to Russia, Mahmoud Bashir, have revealed controversial remarks regarding his country’s stance on the ongoing war in Sudan and its alleged support for the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to the recordings circulated on social media, and obtained by Watan Media Platform, the ambassador acknowledged that Chad allows fighters to pass through its territory to join the RSF, noting that Chad has benefited from the Sudanese conflict, including – in his words – “eliminating the Janjaweed Arabs” and “renting Um Jaras Airport as a source of income.”
In a sarcastic tone, the ambassador questioned the RSF’s ability to achieve victory in the war, saying they failed to declare control despite their widespread presence in Khartoum’s capital and strategic sites such as the General Command of the Armed Forces, Khartoum Airport, the Republican Palace, and radio and television stations.
He added in the audio: “We Chadians rent Um Jaras Airport to whoever wants it, and the renter can do whatever they wish with the airport,” hinting at its use for undisclosed purposes.
