Legal memoranda to prosecute RSF commanders internationally submitted
Al-Gezira Conference – a civil entity – submitted a protest memoranda on Tuesday to several international and regional organizations regarding the violations committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against Al-Gezira citizens; in which it called for the international prosecution of the RSF militia commanders.
The Secretary-General of Al-Gezira Conference, Al-Mubir Mahmoud, told Sudan Tribune, that the conference submitted legal memoranda to regional and international organizations regarding the militia’s violations in Al-Gezira .
He pointed out that the aim of the memoranda is to condemn the crimes of the RSF militia internationally and classify its commanders as war criminals, so that international justice will take the necessary measures to prosecute them for the crimes they committed in Al-Gezira State.
Al-Mubir explained that the memoranda called on international bodies to expand the scope of the current jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court over Darfur to cover violations in Al-Gezira and all of Sudan.
The memoranda called for the formation of an independent international investigation committee into human rights violations, and to provide humanitarian assistance to the affected residents of the state. It stressed the necessity to establish an effective international mechanism for reconstruction in Al-Gezira State and compensation for victims, in addition to enabling stakeholders in Al-Gezira State to participate effectively in any negotiations or initiatives that discuss the issue of war and peace. The memoranda urged the formulation of a comprehensive approach to transitional justice that includes holding perpetrators accountable and redressing the harm to victims, to reflect the principles of fairness and justice, while ensuring the involvement of all stakeholders.
