(Our Army)… An advanced position in the procession of civilization
Dimension…. Distance
Mustafa Abu Al-Azaem
* Now, after the popular revolution in Sudan, and after the failed rebellion attempt that has become extinct, and after our country has begun to recover somewhat politically, and after the positions of the forces that took up arms against the former regime, in its capacity as a representative of the state, have converged, and many of the political and military forces that opposed the former regime have come together, we must take two stands, the first a stand of contemplation and self-examination, and with it a legitimate question about the reasons and motives that made the brother take up arms against his brother, and the second a stand to review the positions that were, in which, only the homeland lost.
* The homeland lost its sons and lost the social cohesion that was an example of the solidity of our people among nations, and our country lost stability that could have led to great human and material development, which we are most prepared for in light of the great and steady human growth, and what happened raises a fundamental question for everyone about the reasons that led to the failure of the homeland to disintegrate, after its entire south was lost without the will of its people in the north or south in service of a personal agenda for some, and an intellectual and ideological agenda for some decision-makers, and perhaps in service of a foreign, Western or regional agenda, that does not take the will of the people into consideration.
* The answer to this question is easy and simple for anyone with insight and discernment, which is that the Sudanese Armed Forces, which since its establishment and formation have expressed the will of the entire nation, were the safety valve that held our country from slipping into the abyss of division, dispersion and chaos. Our Sudanese Armed Forces have played a great role throughout history in preserving the unity of the country, protecting its borders, and safeguarding the rights of the Sudanese citizen, which earned it the trust of the non-ideological citizen, who belongs only to the soil of this great nation, its religion, its heritage, its values and its long history.
The Sudanese Armed Forces have never disappointed the hopes of this people, but have always expressed their will and aspirations and always surprised the world by being with the people whenever they wanted. Therefore, it had its well-known stances in Sudan’s independence, in politicians resorting to it in November 1958, when things became difficult for them, so they resorted to the commandership of the armed forces to get the country out of its political crisis at that time. The commanders of the armed forces did not disappoint the hopes of politicians, so they later assumed the leadership of the country, but after the non-political solutions to some major issues, including the issue of South Sudan, the people came out against the rule of General Ibrahim Abboud and his auspicious companions, and the Sudanese army officers played a major role in the success of the October 1964 Revolution.
*Then negative developments occurred in the political performance that led to the intervention of some army officers to overthrow the democratic regime, led by Colonel Gaafar Mohamed Nimeiri, may Allah have mercy on him, supported by the leftist forces, which he quickly turned against, opening the door to other political forces that he had been hostile to and confronted with iron and fire. The army always played an influential role in the course of events, until Allah Almighty allowed the Nimeiri regime to go through a massive popular revolution that the army sided with on April 6, 1985, which was a turning point in the country’s history.
* The Sudanese did not enjoy democracy much, as a political faction quickly turned against it, and seized power for thirty years, during which many changes and fluctuations occurred, culminating with the end of the regime on April 11, 2019 after a revolution that covered all parts of the country, in which the youth sacrificed their lives until it was crowned with success and the complete departure of the regime. This would not have happened without the intervention of the conscious leaders in the Security Committee, the Armed Forces, the Intelligence and the Police, at the appropriate time.
* The recent rebellion of the Rapid Support Forces confirmed the importance of the army’s intervention at the appropriate time to protect the homeland and the citizen. so we renew our demand for what we called for before that our armed forces have a role in the future of the country’s rule and that this must be done by including it in the upcoming constitution; so that we can end the series of terror, exclusion and attempts to marginalize the only force that owes loyalty to the homeland and works to protect its beliefs and values, and safeguards its people without favor or harm, and which always intervenes in times of adversity, and at the appropriate time.
