Former leader in National Umma Party: Hypothesis of assassinating Al-Mahdi is probable
The former Secretary-General of the National Umma Party (NUP), Dr. Abdul-Rahman Al-Ghaly, said that the hypothesis of the assassination of Imam Al-Ansar and NUP Leader, Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, is probable. Al-Ghaly revealed that Al-Mahdi himself spoke about this hypothesis during a family conversation during his last illness, in which he indicated that he may have been targeted by this illness.
Al-Ghaly said, in an interview with (Sudanese Echoes) published inside and broadcast on Al-Minassa Channel, that Al-Mahdi is an important figure and a safety valve for Sudan. He added that anyone who harbours evil for Sudan might think of removing him and getting rid of him, so what happened to the Imam is open to all possibilities. Al-Ghaly went back and said that the hypothesis of his assassination cannot be proven without evidence, but he said, “The circumstances indicate that the hypothesis of assassinating a figure of this magnitude must be taken into consideration.” Al-Ghaly admitted that Al-Mahdi had received a large share of moral assassination from those with different agendas and even from his allies because they were jealous and envious of the Imam.
In the same context, Al-Ghaly denied that Al-Mahdi had chosen a successor for him in the party, stressing that the Imam was against inheritance and sectarianism in the party. He added Al-Mahdi sought in his project to create institutions that would choose those who held positions.
Abdulrahman Al-Ghaly confirmed that he had left the party institutions since 2015.
