36 UN Peacekeepers Killed or Injured in RSF Drone Attack on UN Headquarters in Kadugli
The Sudanese government strongly condemned the airstrike carried out by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) using a drone, which targeted the United Nations headquarters in Kadugli. The attack constitutes a serious breach of the protection guaranteed to UN facilities and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
The RSF drone struck the UNISFA (United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei) base in Kadugli with three missiles, killing six UN peacekeepers and injuring 30 others, the majority of whom were Ethiopian.
In a statement received by Sudanese Echoes, the Transitional Sovereignty Council said that targeting a protected UN facility represents a serious escalation, constitutes a criminal act amounting to organized terrorism, and demonstrates a deliberate disregard for international law, posing a direct threat to humanitarian and international missions.
The Sudanese government held the RSF fully responsible for the assault and called on the United Nations and the international community to take decisive measures to ensure the protection of UN facilities and humanitarian personnel, and to hold the perpetrators accountable under international law.
